Tell Me A Story
At Challenge Preparatory Academy, students become historians, researchers, filmmakers, and storytellers as they uncover the journeys that shaped their families, communities, and identities.
An interdisciplinary literacy, genealogy, history, and film production initiative developed by Challenge Preparatory Academy.
Every Student Has a Story Worth Telling
This cross-curricular project will guide students in grades 6–12 through the process of exploring their family history, cultural heritage, and personal identity through research, interviews, and storytelling. Students will create a short film, written narrative, or multimedia presentation that honors their ancestry, highlights historical connections, and uplifts their voice.

Why This Matters
This project not only meets academic standards in English, Social Studies, and Media, but also builds student confidence, pride, and connection to their roots. For many students, especially those whose family stories have been disrupted by slavery, migration, or systemic challenges—this project offers healing, empowerment, and pride.
Our students have already begun the work. They have interviewed family members, researched historical records, analyzed DNA evidence, and transformed their discoveries into written and filmed narratives. We are seeking a partner willing to help us take the next step—elevating "Tell Me A Story" from a school-based initiative into a model that demonstrates how genealogy, literacy, history, and storytelling can inspire young people to discover who they are and where they come from.
