Reading Initiative
Inspiring Reading through STEM, Filmmaking and Community Outreach

📚 Literacy Lab (After School & Summer)
Targeted support in reading fluency and comprehension with peer-led book clubs,
read-alouds, and vocabulary challenges.

🎥 Filmmaking Labs
Hands-on experience in directing, editing, and scriptwriting while enhancing comprehension through digital storytelling.


Mission
To transform literacy instruction through the fusion of reading, filmmaking, and STEM—engaging students in hands-on, project-based learning that builds fluency, deepens comprehension, and prepares them for success in college, careers, and life.
Vision
To develop confident readers, problem-solvers, and creators who use literacy, filmmaking, and STEM to imagine, design, and lead in a rapidly changing world.

• Improve 4-12 reading comprehension scores
by 15–20%
• Engage 90+ students annually
• Produce student-led films, monthly PSAs, and a year-end documentary
• Produce student-led STEM projects, and monthly STEM presentations by students

How Can YOU Participate and Support this Initiative?
📍 1. Host or Provide Locations
* Offer free or low-cost space for after-school programs, film shoots, tutoring, or family literacy nights (e.g. churches, libraries, community centers, businesses).
* Help host mobile reading corners or STEM stations at community events.
* Donate access to meeting rooms, gymnasiums, office buildings, or tech labs.
💰 2. Fundraising & Sponsorship
* Become an event sponsor for the Annual Film Festival, Reading Showcase, or Summer Literacy Camp (custom tiers: Bronze to Platinum).
* Provide in-kind donations: meals, student incentives, printing, A/V equipment, books, school supplies.
*Help fund stipends for high school student producers, filmmakers, and reading mentors.
* Match employee donations or launch “Adopt-a-Reader” sponsorship drives ($100 supports one student for a season).
📚 3. Tutoring & Mentoring
* Volunteer as a reading tutor, STEM coach, or homework helper (training provided).
* Provide 1:1 or small group reading support after school or during summer camp.
* Bring career inspiration—speak about your work and how reading/STEM skills apply in real life (guest speaker or panelist).
* Offer bilingual support or accommodations for students with learning differences.
🎤 4. Promote Awareness
* Share our PSAs, student stories, or literacy events via social media and community newsletters.
* Display flyers at your place of worship, business, or organization.
* Invite your networks to attend the Film Festival or reading events.
🏗 5. Strategic Partnerships
* Partner to offer internships or job-shadowing opportunities for filmmaking or STEM students.
* Collaborate on grant applications or community development initiatives.
* Join our Literacy & Learning Advisory Council (educators, parents, business leaders, and nonprofit reps welcome).
